We wanted to provide a few updates for the new school year! The BHCS Board of Directors voted to operate under Plan B (moderate social distancing, attending school 2 days per week), and also providing Plan C (fully remote) to our families who feel more comfortable with their children at home. They also stated that this decision would be dependent upon Person County metrics regarding COVID-19 cases. In the event that they need to re-convene to revisit their decision, they would do so as necessary.
*Please note that at any time the Governor can override this decision and require us to operate under Plan C only.
Thank you to those parents who filled out our Student Entry Survey, we are diligently working to make arrangements as we speak. We will be sending those in the mail by the end of the week as well as more details as to how learning will look for your child. If your child is a bus rider, their bus driver will be calling soon to verify and go over our updated bus routes.
We are preparing our classrooms and buildings to comply with reopening guidance from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to ensure we are operating as safely as we can. We also make contact with the Person County Health Department as necessary for local updates.
Students will be required to wear a cloth face covering during the day when they are not eating, drinking, or engaged in physical activity. This guidance changes frequently, so please check NCDHHS guidance to view the most current guidance. We have also received 5 cloth face coverings from the state for each student and staff member. Your child is welcome to wear their own, whichever is most comfortable. We have lanyards for children to clip their mask to, or we will provide a brown paper bag to store it in with their name on it.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold our annual family “Hot Dog” night like we traditionally do at school. Please continue to mark the evening of Thursday, August 13, 2020 for either a Virtual Open House, or Remote Learning Orientation. More details will be coming out soon.
Please know this is an unprecedented time for us and we are trying to make decisions that are best for our students and staff. Realize there will be many changes for not only the students but the staff as well. We are working through these to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
Stay safe Wildcats!
